4:15pm-5:00pm | New Worlds: How Optimistic Sci-Fi Gets Made, Funded, and Seen

What if the most powerful tool for building the future isn't a lab - it's a short film? The Future Vision XPRIZE is offering a $3.5M prize pool to filmmakers who dare to imagine technology-forward, optimistic visions of what's ahead.

This conversation is about the mission underneath: why the world needs stories of abundance right now, and what it takes to bring them to life - from the imagination to conceive abundant futures, to the tools making bigger worlds possible, to the new financing models rewriting who gets to tell these stories.

This is the full arc of optimistic sci-fi, told by the people living it.

(The competition is presented by PHD Ventures, the XPRIZE Foundation, and Google & Range Media Partners through their 100 ZEROS initiative, in partnership with Republic Film)

Invitation only, must RSVP to be considered.

PETER MICELLI - CEO & Co-Founder, Range Media Partners

Peter Micelli is CEO and co-founder of Range Media Partners, the 5-year-old cultural capital firm that has quickly established itself as a dominant force within the talent representation ecosystem and one of the most innovative & forward-thinking firms in Hollywood overall.

Micelli began his illustrious career at CAA in 1995, starting in the mailroom before quickly moving up through the ranks, distinguishing himself as a top TV Literary and Packaging Agent. His 23-year tenure at CAA is punctuated by numerous distinctions and milestones. Within ten years, Micelli became the youngest person to run the TV Packaging Division, one of the most profitable divisions within the agency. He then became the youngest person to ever co-head the Television department, supervising a staff of 195 employees. Under his leadership, the department grew to over $200 million per year in revenue. Subsequently, he was named to the Compensation Committee at CAA as well as its Operations Board.

Beyond his senior level management success within CAA, Micelli is widely recognized as having revolutionized the TV independent studio finance business, serving as a significant catalyst to the growth of streaming. In 2007, he authored the business plan on independent studio finance, which delivered Netflix an original content strategy and helped propel them to the category leadership they have today. More so, Micelli helped Netflix get its first seven original series off the ground, including HOUSE OF CARDS, HEMLOCK GROVE, ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, SENSE 8, and NARCOS. This collaboration radically changed the landscape of film and television and paved the way for streamers to engage high-end talent. By 2018, he had a record-breaking 53 TV series in production in which he served as the Packaging Agent, including but not limited to HAWAII 5-0, LOST, THE LEFTOVERS, WATCHMEN, the STAR TREK universe, THE MANDALORIAN, LUCIFER, HOUSE, and many more. During this time, he also maintained the most prolific list of creatives under representation in the television industry.

In early 2018, Micelli was recruited by Entertainment One (EOne) to serve as Chief Strategy Officer where he was chiefly responsible for transitioning the company from a distribution strategy into a content studio, all while leading a group of over 400 employees. In his first year at EOne, Micelli led the company to record-breaking sales and production orders which included series such as YELLOWJACKETS and THE ROOKIE. That growth and success was highlighted in the 2019 year-end report for the London Stock Exchange. When he began his work at EOne, the company was valued at $1.6 billion. Through Micelli's leadership, the strategic pivot from distribution to content creation catapulted the EOne studio to global prominence, resulting in its acquisition by Hasbro for $4.2 billion in January of 2020, a 2X increase in valuation in under 2 years.

During the summer of 2020, Micelli began planting the seeds of what is now known as Range Media Partners. Under his management, the company once called "the biggest startup to take root within Hollywood…in years" by Variety has scaled to over 250 employees through a mixture of organic growth, strategic acquisitions, and acquihires. The company now boasts one of the most diversified businesses in the industry including talent management across Film/TV, Music, Digital, and Sports; holistic production capabilities including a TV Studio, premium film production, independent film financing, & commercials; as well as numerous other strategic capabilities including audience marketing & advisory and asset & IP creation including literary publishing, records & music publishing, games, talent ventures, and more.

Micelli graduated from Cal State Northridge - or as he refers to it, the Harvard of the Valley - with a degree in speech communications.
